About Arohi Travels
More than two decades ago when Adventure Tourism
in Himachal Pradesh was still in its infancy. M.C.
Thakur an accomplished mountaineer and skier incorporated
Arohi Travels the first trek and tour operators
recognised by the Himachal pradesh Govt., department
of tourism in the Manali region. Arohi was an appropriate
name we felt as it means - The Summiteer.

completed mountaineering and skiing courses from
the "Western Himalayan Mountainnering Institute(Manali)".
He also participated in many National Skiing
Competitions to emerge with 1st and 2nd position.
Arohi intends to cross all barriers and attain a
honourable name in promoting eco friendly tourism
within the state and in India. Our vision was to
make adventure tourism safe yet thrilling and adventurous.
We reconnoitred new routes into the Greater Himalayas
and promoted existing ones. We use experienced and
proffesional local mountain guides who know the
routes well and are equipped to deal with any untoward
circumstances that could arise in the mountains.
When the Manali-Leh Highway was first opened to
visitors, we pioneered this heady highway by taking
the first group of overseas tourists by luxury coaches
all the way to Leh. Subsequently in 1990, Arohi
again took overseas tourist by Himachal pradesh
Tourism luxury coaches on the same route and this
was flagged of by the then "Director General
Tourism, Govt. of India Mr. B.K.Goshwami".
In 1991 when the tribal districts of Kinnaur and
Spiti bordering China were opened to overseas visitors
we were the first to flash this news to all the
Indian government tourist offices abroad. The detailed
information and itineraries about the opening up
of these areas were then published in Travel News
India-Germany in February 1992 and also other travel
related publications during the same year.
Eco friendly Tourism is another first from Arohi.
We knew very well the dangers that our fragile ecology
and environment would face by increased tourism
if tours and treks were not organised and coordinated
well. Campsites were to be kept clean and left in
the same natural state unspoiled for other groups.
We incorporated safe guards in to all our trekking
and mountaineering expeditions. Unnecessary risks
were to be avoided at all costs even if it meant
a slight change in the itinerary. Nature is to be
enjoyed not ravaged by man.
Today Arohi Travels is one of the leading adventure
tour operators in the state providing excellent
trekking and mountaineering opportunities in the
Western Himalayas. Our outdoor staff comprise of
'born in the mountains' guides, cooks, camp assistants
and porters. We engage only the most reliable pack-pony
men and use the latest equipment in all our adventure
activities. What's more important is that we are
also equipped for any kind of emergency that may
arise in the mountains. For nature is unpredictable.
