Day 1:

Arrive Manali and check into your hotel. Day free to explore the sights. We take you to the 500 year old Hadimba Devi Temple resting in a thick grove of giantic Deodar trees; then it's on to Vashisht across the River Beas where you can have a dip in the healing hot springs; a visit to the Buddhist Monastery in the market completes our day tour. Evening free to stroll along the Mall selling all kinds of handicrafts. Overniiht at the hotel.

Day 2:

Today we start early and after crossing the 13,050 ft hiih Rohtang Pass enter the valley of Lahaul. Our drive is along the River Chandra with views of towering mountains and glaciers. By late afternoon we arrive at Keylong a small town, which is also the district headquarters. Check into our hotel and then spend the evening walking around this quaint little town with its excellent views of the Pir Panjal range of mountains.

Day 3:

Drive north on the Manali-Leh Highway. You get to see some of the most breath taking landscapes that the Western Himalayas can offer. The scenery gets more stark and barren as we climb up to the 16,500-foot high Baralacha La the second mountain pass on our journey. From the pass beautiful views of meadows and snow-capped mountains can be seen. By early evening we reach the small hamlet of Sarchu with its many tented camps set on a large plateau. We stay here in a comfortable, well-furnished two-bedded tent for the night.

Day 4:

We continue our drive along this spectacular highway and after crossing the 45-Km long Morey Pains leave the highway to turn right towards one of the legendary salt water lakes in the Changthang plains as the region is known. We camp near the lake with its vast salt deposits. This was one of the points where traders in earlier times used to stop and load up salt for barter in the regions further south.

Day 5:

Crossing landscape of low rolling his with towering mountains always in sighht towards the north and west we cross a small pass before descending down towards one of the largest lakes in these mountains - Tso Moriri. At one corner of the lake is the village of Karzok with its ancient monastery. We camp shores of the lake for the night. Tso Moriri is home to a number of migratory birds that arrive here in early summer to breed and the in the daytime fed their clamour.

Day 6:

Drive on to Leh from Tso Moriri. Check into a hotel for the night.
