Achivements
Arohi Travels over the years has been instrumental
in quite a few initiatives towards improving the
Himalayan environment. MC Thakur with his years
of experience as a mountaineer and trekker has been
involved in trying to improve and preserve the environment
and ecology of the Himalayas.beside the Tourism
industry Arohi has been involved in promoting eco-friendly
tourism in the Western Himalays.
M.C.Thakur has been actively involved in social
activities, in the year 1995 floods which had endangered
the lives of SASE army Personnels. he saved
their life without caring for his personal life,
for the gallantry work he was awarded "JEEVAN
RAKSHA PADAK" by the President of India
in 1998.
1994
- September: Arohi Awareness Campaign
against Pollution- The Rohtang Safai Abhiyan was
a weeklong cleanliness drive held at the 13,050ft
high Rohtang Pass and this was inaugurated by the
then Chief Minister Shri. Vir Bhadra Singh.
1994 -October:
Arohi sponsored the Wild Life Week, which was celebrated
along with the Rotary Club -Kullu chapter. Dr.
A.J. Gaston a renowned conservationist of the
Canadian Wild Life Service also attended.
1994-
November: Arohi in collaboration with
the Shimla Municipal Corporation conducted a drive
to clean up Shimla town and create awareness about
cleanliness among the residents. This drive was
inaugurated by Shri. Sant Ram the State Forest
Minister. A large number of participants joined
the drive along with Shri. Satya Prakash Thakur
the then Chief Parliamentary Secretary.
1995 - January:
This was a door to door campaign during which printed
literature about the importance of environment protection
and pollution control measures were distributed.
The role of individuals among the residents and
business establishments in active cooperation with
the Nagar Panchayat Manali was also stressed.
On
the occasion of "World Environment Day"
Arohi organises a drive to keep the Himalayas clean
and green by distrubuting leaflets to all the visiting
tourists and putting up banners on the Manali -
Rohtang Road.
1995
- May: "The Role of Women
and Youth in Nature Conservation" this
was the topic of the meet held at Solang Valley.
This was inaugurated by Shri Kamal Nath the
Environment & Forest Minister, Government of
India. About 2000 women and youth participated in
this campaign.

M.C.Thakur was nominated by the govt. of
india, ministry of Environment and Forest to be
member of the governing body of the G.B.Pant institute
of Himalayan Environment and Development, where
he served from 1994 - 2001. He was also made a member
of G.B. Pant society.

Thakur was also member of the H.P. environment
protection council, Govt. of Himachal pradesh.
1997-May: At a meeting of the H.P. Environment
Protection Council MC Thakur raised a number points
regarding the conservation and protection of the
Himalayan environment and these were all considered
favorably.
Meher Chand Thakur was also instrumental
in the ban of plastic bags in the state.
This was done due to the heavy pollution that these
non-biodegradable bags were causing to the environment.
M.C.Thakur is also a correspondent for the
daily english north indian newspaper "The
Tribune".
These are just a few of the many initiatives that
Arohi Travels has been responsible for. Our basic
aim is to restore and protect and preserve the flora
nad fauna of the western Himalayas. We are continuing
to spread awareness among the local populace and
visitors about the urgent need for Nature and Wild
Life conservation besides encouraging the youth
to join in this venture.
